What a regional meet. The OK Red was well represented in the regional with the top 4 teams coming from our conference. The West Ottawa girls had a fantastic team effort tonight placing 4th overall. This is the highest the team has finished since 1997!
We had 7 state qualifiers. The most qualifiers we have had in recent memory. The regional meet is where you have to qualify. The top 2 in each event automatically go to state, plus there are additional qualifying standards in each event that can be met.
Taylor Buis was 2nd overall, clearing 5'0" in the high jump.
The 4X800 relay consisting of Abbey VanAllsburg, Jenna Maas, Emma DeNave, and Taylor Schott ran 9:31.9 placing 2nd overall, and running well under the qualifying time of 9:45.
In the 1600, Iris Swarthout placed 4th overall and qualified for State by running under the qualifying time of 5:09.24 by running a NEW SCHOOL RECORD of 5:07.64. The previous record of 5:10.14 was set by Patty Langworthy in 1997.
The final State qualifier was Morgan Miller- she placed 2nd overall in the 300 Hurdles running a new PR of 47.23.
Congrats to the state qualifiers! The state meet will take place on June 4th at Hudsonville High School.
Many others set PRs and had outstanding performances overall.
Rachel Ives set a PR in the 100 running 13.62.
Jurrien Wilson set a PR in the 200 running 28.85.
Faith White set a PR in the 200 running 27.15, she qualified for the 200 finals and finished 8th overall.
The 4x200 relay team of Taylor Buis, Morgan Miller, Anna Repesh, and Faith White BARELY missed state placing 3rd overall. They ran another season best of 1:47.23, which was 2 seconds faster than they ran at the conference meet, .1 from making the state meet and .2 from setting the school record.
Jenna Maas and Abbey VanAllsburg ran PRs in the 800 and finished 3rd and 4th overall.
The 4X100 relay of Taylor Buis, Silvia Restucci, Jurrien Wilson, and Anna Repesh finished 7th overall and ran a season best of 52.64.
The 4X400 relay of Taylor Schott, Morgan Miller, Anna Smyk, and Anna Repesh finished 5th overall and ran a season best of 4:13.
